Q and A with keeper Pule back home in Zeerust, Northwest province

SuperSport United are on a three-week break without action due to the upcoming 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Matsatsantsa website managed to touch base with one of their goalkeepers Boalefa Pule back home in Zeerust in the Northwest province of South Africa.

Pule has been one of the loyal and committed squad members with the club and has won trophies and accolades with United.

What are you keeping yourself busy with in this long break?

This is going to be the longest football break ever!  I have tried to spend a lot of my time with family and also went back home to check on my mother and the rest of the family.  It’s a bit weird being off at this time in our football calendar as well, but we have tried to spend time together (as a family) before we resume training.

Do you guys have a programme to follow just to maintain the fitness level?

Personally I have been trying to work on my physical weaknesses that I have identified together with our trainers and also try to reflect a lot on my contribution to the team's success so far. I definitely think i can improve a lot going into the second round of the league.

What is your point of departure when you return to training?

The entire team is coming back next Monday, I can’t wait to go back and start training with my teammates.  It will be tough though but that’s the nature of the game. We have to train properly and be dedicated because that's the starting point if you want to win matches.

The 2022 FIFA World Cup is around the corner, which nation are you rooting for or the ones you think have chances since Bafana  Bafana are not in?

I think it is always going to be painful for us not being there as a nation, but we hope and pray the upcoming generation of players would fulfil their potential and try to compete with the best on the bigger platform. For me I think Brazil, France and Argentina have the edge with the best squads they have. There are also good teams with a lot of potential to pull big surprises, so for me I think it will be a tight one but good for football people.

On a positive note, “Bash” and other PSL players were honoured after completing the PSL Transition Programme. I think Bash leads by example since the two of you and him are surrounded by young players?

Firstly I would like to congratulate all my teammates that participated in the program (Bash – Onismor Bhasera and Bradley Grobler) and also thank the PSL and all the stakeholders for a brilliant idea that came to fruition. Hopefully this kind of programme can be part of the PSL DNA breed of more of similar programmes like this. A coaching school programme can be delivered like this for active players who wish to be on the other side of the pitch when the curtain goes down in their careers. To see Bash, Siya (Siyabonga Nhlapo) and Brad being part of it was a nice touch, those are the guys that live and breathe football. Hopefully the younger players have seen it is possible to have a good balance between books and football and most of all to prepare yourself for life after football.
