SuperSport United, Department of Justice and Correctional Services and FIFA Foundation launched the first Twinning Project in Africa on Monday.

The launch was held at the Kgoši Mampuru Correctional Centre in Tshwane.

In the opening session, the national Commissioner of the Department of Correctional Services Mr. Makgothi Thobakgale welcomed and introduced all the dignitaries.

The big event was graced by the Minister of Justice and Correctional Services Ronald Lamola who conducted keynote address, SuperSport United CEO Stanley Matthews, CEO of the Twinning Project Hilton Freund, Matsatsantsa assistant coach Andre Arendse and Jan “Malombo” Lechaba.

A cherry on top was the big match between SuperSport United FC legends and the inmates Football Club.

The final score was 1-1 at regulation time and the match had to be decided on penalties.  Ex-Bafana Bafana centre-forward Katlego “Killer” Mphela netted for Matsatsantsa.  The inmates equalized in the dying minutes of the exciting match and ultimately won the game 2-1 on penalties.

Interestingly, Matsatsantsa legends featured other legends such as Edward Motale, Thapelo Liau, Aubrey “Sense of Knowledge” Lekwane and Desmond Chauke.  Matsatsantsa legends were coached by former SuperSport United team manager Jerry Warie.

Meanwhile the SuperSport United senior team players, led by captains Onismor Bhasera and Thulani Hlatshwayo also formed part of the first memorable launch on the African continent.
