SuperSport United lost 3-2 to Tshakhuma FC in the 2022 Nedbank Cup quarterfinal on Friday night.
The match was held at the Thohoyandou Stadium in Venda.
The match started at a high tempo with both sides searching for an early lead.
Matsatsantsa were fortunate to grab the lead in the 16th minute from Jesse Donn’s wonderful strike after a good built up on the right from Selaelo Rasebotja and Aubrey Ngoma who assisted with a beautiful delivery on the right.
The score was 1-0 to SuperSport.
The home side regrouped to find an equalizer as Talent Mbatha cleared a dangerous ball from Tshakhuma captain Rhulani Manzini’s delivery on the right.
Tshakhuma kept on fighting for an equalizer but United were too clever as they always caught them on the counter.
In the 38th minute skipper Ronwen Williams tipped Manzini’s long range effort over the post after winning a free-kick.
Three minutes before interval United conceded a corner-kick but managed to clear it with keeper Williams leading by example.
Both sides displayed entertaining football with Tshakhuma enjoying possession as the match goes into half time.
The halftime score was 1-0 to SuperSport United.
In the 48th minute Rasebotja hit the upright on the far post from close range after another brilliant back-heel pass from Ngoma.
In the 55th minute Tshakhuma made triple substitutions.
In the 61rst minute were awarded a penalty as Nicolas Motloung held Ngoma in the box after receiving a delivery from Gamphani Lungu.
The Zambian international converted from the spot-kick as Matsatsantsa increased the lead to 2-0.
After United netted their second goal the young midfielder Thalente Mbatha picked up an injury and was replaced by Siyabonga Nhlapo.
In the 68th minute Tumi Nqwepe released a powerful shot that left Williams rooted on the ground to make the score 2-1.
The combination of Ngoma and Selaelo Rasebotja saw the latter’s effort caught Tshakhuma keeper in the 72nd minute.
Ngwepe’s strike brought Tshakhuma back into the game as they kept on putting pressure to United.
In the 74th minute Ngoma chipped beautifully to Lungu but his effort was cleared by Tshakhuma keeper to a cornerkick.
In the 77th minute Tshakhuma made some more changes as Tumelo Makha came on for Rendani Ndou.
A minute later defender Luke Fleurs was cautioned after bringing Motloung down as he was charging forward.
In the 80th minute Diamond Thopola was lucky to get a caution after a dangerous tackle to Donn.
With just six minutes remaining (84th minutes) substitute Naeem Amojee equalized after a lapse of concentration from United

In the 87th minute Thapelo Maseko came off the bench for Sifiso Ngobeni.
The final score was 2-2 as the match went into the extra time.
Both sides continued displaying entertaining football and the home were cheered by their fans who enjoyed the return to the Stadiums after long time.
In the 101st minute substitute Tumelo Makha scored the third goal after another mistake by Fleurs who was dispossessed after a built up at the back.
In the 103rd minute coach Kaitano Tembo made a double-substitution as Sibusiso Maziko replaced Ngoma who had a good game and showed a vast of experience on the night while Rasebotja made way for Tenda Matodzi.
Half time – extra time score was 3-2 to the home side.
Matsatsantsa came back in the second half of the extra time as they kept on pushing forward searching for an equalizer.
In the 112th minute Fleurs’ powerful effort went wide after a long range delivery from keeper Williams on the halfway mark.
Tshakhuma came back on a counter attack in the 119th as keeper Williams saved a close range effort from Makha.
The final score was 3-2 to Tshakhuma after extra time.
