SuperSport United retained their place at the top of the DStv Diski Challenge with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Sekhukhune United on Sunday.

Jabu Matsio scored the first goal of the match, putting United in the lead just after three minutes into the game. However, their celebrations were short-lived as Sekhukhune levelled the matters seven minutes later through Asekho Tiwani.

The game went to the break with the two sides tied 1-1. Babina Noko did not make things easy for Matsatsantsa; however, Sekhukhune succumbed to pressure in the 67th minute, where Thabang Makubo scored the most crucial goal of the game that earned them maximum points.

The results mean Matsatsantsa remain at the top of the log for another week as they now have 52 points.

They are one point ahead of second-placed Cape Town City FC and two points ahead of Orlando Pirates, occupying the third spot.

In the Diski Challenge festival that was hosted at Mpumalanga Stadium in Hammarsdale Richards Bay FC, Pirates and Maritzburg United were the big winners as they all collected three points, beating Golden Arrows, AmaZulu and Mamelodi Sundowns respectively.

Royal AM and Kaizer Chiefs played to a goalless draw in a match billed as the fixture of the weekend.

In Cape Town, The Citizens put five past Swallows as they thumped them 5-1; meanwhile, Stellenbosch FC extended Chippa United’s winless streak to 14 matches.

The Chilli Boys, who are so hot, remain at the bottom of the Diski Challenge with 10 points after 24 games.
